From the Classroom

Fall's First Field Trip

Monday morning September 26th, 5th grade students in Julie Miereding's Live Oak Charter class arrived in the Steamer Landing parking lot ready for a day of fun and learning in the local outdoors. It was our very first Watershed Classroom field trip of the 2016-2017 school year!

Students build their own watersheds and learn how pollution travels via storm water.

Students played games, made their very own watershed models, learned about the native plants on site, practiced observation and field journalling skills, and explored Steamer Landing through free play.

As part of our commitment to reaching more students every year and with our brand new City of Petaluma partnership on storm water education, the Watershed Classroom has revamped its field trips, adding more materials, more activities, and easier access to our facilities. Field trips are free to Watershed Classroom teachers and affordable for the community, with flexible pricing for your students' or youth group's needs.

If you would like to book a field trip to the David Yearsley River Heritage Center at Steamer Landing, please fill out our field trip request form and we will work with you to create the perfect experience for your students.
